DEP awards two-year grant to Sustainable Business Network and City of Boston Redevelopment Authority for new program

Boston , April 24, 2008 –
On April 23, Boston Mayor Tom M. Menino hosted the official launch of the new Sustainable Business Leader Program (SBLP), a partnership between the Sustainable Business Network of Greater Boston (SBN) and the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA). SBLP is funded in part by two-year grant from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

Shown posing with an enlargement of the $50,000 DEP check are, left to right: Galen Nelson of the BRA; Mayor Tom M. Menino; Peggy Harlow of the DEP; SBN Board Member Susan Labandibar of Tech Networks of Boston; and SBLP Director Jennifer Boudrie.

“SBLP is leading the way to help small and mid-sized businesses to become more economically and environmentally sustainable,” Jennifer Boudrie says. “SBLP offers technical assistance to help businesses evaluate current practices in energy and water conservation, pollution prevention, transportation, waste reduction, and sustainability management. Based on recommendations, each business can adopt an action plan and have access to resources to become more sustainable. SBLP will monitor the implementation of the plan during the year and at the end of the program will prepare a report with best practices to help many more businesses."

Businesses seeking technical assistance are encouraged to fill out the application on the SBLP website, www.SustainableBusinessLeader.org , or call 617-271-1954.

SBLP is part of the Sustainable Business Network of Greater Boston, a 501(c)3 organization, which is also the umbrella for “Local First” campaigns that support local businesses in our communities.
