About SBLP

The Sustainable Business Leader Program (SBLP) was designed to meet the unique needs & challenges of small to medium size businesses in their pursuit to become more environmentally sustainable by providing technical assistance that is affordable, practical, and actionable.

Who We Are

We are concerned citizens and business owners just like you.  Our goal in creating this program is to assist small to medium size business owners who recognize the importance of making environmentally sustainable improvements but are often too busy and lacking the resources or time to research alternative practices.

What We Do

We work with you.  Our mission, through our six-step program, is to support locally owned and independent businesses in improving their environmental business practices, reducing their carbon footprint, and saving money.  An SBLP coordinator conducts a Sustainability Assessment in seven areas:

  1. Energy Efficiency
  2. Water Conservation
  3. Waste Management
  4. Pollution Prevention & Safe Alternatives
  5. Transportation
  6. Local Purchasing & Local Food
  7. Sustainability Management

Based on recommendations produced from the Sustainability Assessment, each business creates a Sustainability Action Plan (SAP) in collaboration with their SBLP Sustainability Coordinator.  Upon successful completion of the Sustainability Action Plan, the business is designated a Sustainable Business Leader.

Boston is an innovative city comprised of small and medium size businesses that play an integral role in our state’s economy.  Being business owners ourselves, we know that, with the day-to-day demands of running a business, sometimes-critical ideas, such as creating sustainability management initiatives, can fall to the bottom of the list.  We want to help you make sustainability a priority and keep it as a priority.  Think of us as your kick-start to a new Green Team!
