The city will celebrate the 2010 GoGreen Award winners at its annual reception Tuesday, May 25, in City Hall Annex at 344 Broadway. The reception, with refreshments from Grendel’s Den Restaurant, will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the program from 6:15 to 7 p.m.
The guest speaker will be Julia Wolfe, zero waste planner for Save That Stuff, a waste management company that helps more than 3,000 businesses and institutions collect recyclables, vegetable oil and other recoverable materials. She brought to her position more than 15 years of experience, first at the U.S. EPA and then at the Mass. Department of Environmental Protection, where she initiated the state’s Wastewise and supermarket recycling certification programs, among others, and helped local governments develop business recycling programs.
During the reception, experts from state and local agencies will be available to talk with people about opportunities to reduce energy costs and waste in their businesses and homes.
This year’s award winners in the large business or organization category are MIT, for transportation and storm water management, Harvest Coop and Whole Foods for waste reduction, and Novartis for energy.
Small business or organization award winners are the Dance Complex for waste reduction, Linear Retail Properties for storm water management, Harvard Bookstore for transportation, Cornerstone Cohousing for waste reduction in a multifamily housing, and Lansing Fair and Better Cities Management Company for energy.
Special awards for climate action will go to Watermark Cambridge and Irving House at Harvard.
