Understanding Healthy Living: Be Healthy Boston

It is no secret that health in America has become a major issue. With diets consisting of processed foods and daily activities involving computer and TV screens it’s no wonder we have an obesity problem.  As this epidemic grows so do the exercise and diet industries. “The latest figures from Marketdata, Inc., which analyses ten major segments of the U.S. diet industry, put the current annual total at $58 billion spent on weight-loss products and services.” So if we are spending so much money on diet books, pills and personal trainers why are we still so unhealthy?

According to Be Healthy Boston, “Healthy living is not just about exercise and diet. A true balanced lifestyle means a commitment to reducing stress through best practices, creating a greener living environment, enjoying the outdoors and learning how to take care of those around you.”  Being healthy requires lifestyle changes; there are no shortcuts to good health.  Learning to make these changes is not always an easy task nor is there one right way to do it.  Fortunately, for those needing guidance there is an abundance of information in written literature and on the web as well as health and nutrition professionals ready to assist.

Is becoming healthy one of your New Years resolutions?  On January 28-29, 2011 Be Healthy Boston is offering an urban wellness retreat at the Westin Boston Waterfront where local health and wellness experts will help individuals wade through the plethora of health information available through fun workshops, sample fitness classes, cooking demonstrations and more, and introduce their visitors to the best way to incorporate health and wellness into their busy lifestyles.  For more information on the retreat or to register for the event check out: http://www.behealthyboston.com/register/.
